Newburyport Public Library introduces the community to The Big Read with an interactive display in the front lobby, local and other events, and announcement of the debut of the Newburyport Public Library Book Group and the Newburyport Lifelong Learning Lyceum.


FEBRUARY

MOVIE AT THE FIREHOUSE

Event Location:
Firehouse Center for the Arts

Newburyport Lifelong Learning Lyceum member, Charles Ketcham (Smith College, retired faculty), introduces classic film To Kill a Mockingbird and follows it with a brief discussion.

Passes for movie screenings at The Firehouse are available only at the door 1/2 hour before each show. 

Not Your Average Joe's will give 15% discount on an entrée on Feb. 18 to those displaying the pass!

BOOKGROUP AND DISCUSSION

Event Location: The Newburyport Public Library, Directors' Room, Newburyport, MA 01950

The Library will create and sponsor their first book group and read "To Kill a Mockingbird" with follow-up discussion.

DISCUSSION/CRITICISM SERIES: "CULTURE, RACE, AND THE LAW/VIOLENCE"

The Lyceum will present a seminar about culture, race, and law/violence from the perspective of 1890-1940 and in the context of "To Kill a Mockingbird." The facilitator will be Tom Lyons, Phillips Andover Academy and Dartmouth College faculty (retired).

Bill Gette of the National Audubon Society, Joppa Flats, will discuss mockingbirds and share experiences on his Antarctic sojourn. Sponsored by Friends of the Newburyport Public Library. Light refreshments.

MOCKINGBIRD CELEBRATION - GRAND FINALE

This celebration will gather all Book Groups and other "Mockingbird" participants for a grand finale with discussion and refreshments.
